Are you interested in teaching Elementary or Secondary Education? Do you have a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution? Do you have 10 or more years of creditable service towards retirement? Would you extend or commit to serving an additional 3 years in the Selected Reserve or less if you will retire within 3 years?
If you answered "Yes" to all of these questions you may want to consider the Troops to Teachers program. I registered and became eligible for TTT in 2008. A counselor helped me select an alternative teaching certification program to obtain a standard Idaho teaching certificate for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Secondary Education certification programs are also available.
I qualified for financial assistance and was reimbursed for tuition, books, materials and transportation expenses directly related to my teacher certification program. If you qualify, TTT may provide stipends of up to $5,000 to reimburse costs associated with becoming certified to teach and bonuses of $10,000 to those hired to teach in a high-need school. Both the stipend and bonus require a three-year teaching commitment.
TTT will also provide:
· Counseling to become a certified teacher in every state.
· Referral list including your name, mini-resume and teaching interests for school   districts looking to hire new teachers.
· School district vacancy postings to assist with your job search.
· Mentor connection consisting of TTT participants who are currently teaching and have volunteered their time to answer questions of other participants.
Gowen Field will host a Troops to Teachers seminar Wednesday, June 17 at Bldg. 440 Room 267. For more information please contact 208-272-3761.
