124th Services Flight chefs compete in annual Iron Chef Competition

GOWEN FIELD, Boise, Idaho -- Taking a cue from the now famous TV show, Iron Chef, the Services Flight from the 124th Force Support Squadron will hold its 4th annual team competition during April UTA to see "whose cuisine reigns supreme." This year's competition will pit 'Team France' against 'Team Louisiana' in head-to-head competition.
Each year, services personnel form two teams by a draw on a drill prior to the competition. At that time they select and develop a menu. The cooking competition will begin early Sunday morning of drill and conclude prior to the dining facilities doors opening at 10:30 a.m. The judges, selected from members of the wing, are served first and will sample dishes from both teams. However, the votes that count the most are those made by the entire wing. Each airman is given a ballot and is asked for their opinions on what is served. In the event of a tie, the votes cast by volunteer judges will decide the winner. "The competition was started as a way to build morale and team spirit," said Tech. Sgt. Amethyst Keaten of the Services Flight. "It gives us a chance to make something special, and breakup the usual menu." It also gives a chance for the chefs of the flight to show their creativity and imagination.
Look for the competition on Sunday, April 10, at Building 400 Aerospace Dining Facility from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The winning team will be announced during the May drill weekend. So be there to enjoy some great food and see what the Services Flight has to offer in the heat of competition, and as exhorted by the TV Iron Chef Chairman, "Allez Cuisine!"
