Nearly 300 airmen, guests and distinguished visitors gathered to honor the best and brightest of the 124th Fighter Wing Dec. 11 at the Grove Hotel in Boise for the annual Guardsmen of the Year banquet.

The social evening of the year for the men and women of the Idaho Air National Guard featured a keynote address from Boise State University's director of football operations Viliami Tuivai. Other highlights of the evening included the singing of the national anthem by Master Sgt. Kent "Stretch" Johnson, the always somber and well done POW-MIA remembrance table ceremony, and recognition of the 2009 Guardsmen of the Quarter winners.

The 2008 Air National Guard Airman of the Year Staff Sgt. Jonathan Sawmiller spoke to the audience, describing what an honor it was to be one of the 12 Air National Guard Airmen of the Year. He was the first Idaho ANG member since Kari Patterson in 1994 to win the honor.
