124th Services Flight chefs compete in annual Iron Chef Competition Published April 15, 2011 By Master Sgt. Tom Gloeckle 124FW Public Affairs GOWEN FIELD, Boise, Idaho -- Taking a cue from the now famous TV show, Iron Chef, the Services Flight from the 124th Force Support Squadron will hold its 4th annual team competition to see "whose cuisine reigns supreme." This year's competition will pit Team France against Team Louisiana in head -to- head competition. Each year, the two teams are formed from services personnel by a draw on a drill prior to the competition. At that time the fare is selected by each team and a menu is developed. The cooking competition will begin early Sunday morning of drill and concludes prior to the dining facilities doors opening at 10:30 a.m. The judges, selected from members of the wing, are served first and will sample dishes from both teams. However, the votes that count the most are those made by the entire wing. Each airman is given a ballot and is asked for their opinions on what is served. In the event of a tie, the votes that the volunteer judges make will decide the winner. The winning team will be engraved on a large "Iron Chef" plaque and each member will receive a smaller plaque honoring their victory. "The competition was started as a way to build morale and team spirit," says Tech. Sgt. Amethyst Keaten of the Services Flight. "It gives us a chance to make something special, and breakup the usual menu." It also gives a chance for the chefs of the flight to show their creativity and imagination. The competition will be held on Sunday, April 10, at Building 400 Aerospace Dining Facility from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The winning team will be announced during the May drill weekend at a time to be determined. So be there to enjoy some great food and see what the Services Flight has to offer in the heat of competition, and in the immortal words of the Chairman, "Allez Cuisine!"
