The 124th Fighter Wing holds a change of command ceremony Nov. 7, 2021, at Gowen Field, Idaho, signifying the transfer of authority and command between the outgoing commander Col. Shannon Smith and the incoming commander, Col. Chad Kornberg. Smith has served as the wing’s commander since May 2019 and led the wing through their second largest deployment and Idaho's battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Brad Little met with several key military leaders Aug. 19 at the Orchard Combat Training Center to receive an update on current Idaho National Guard programs and major upcoming events and exercises. During a tour of the OCTC, Tactical Air Control Party Master Sgt. After nearly 35 years of service, Brig. Gen. Michael A. Nolan, former Assistant Adjutant General-Air, Idaho Air National Guard, retired at a ceremony at Gowen Field on July 17. In this scenario with a missing hiker in the mountains, the Idaho Air National Guard’s TACPs from the 124th Air Support Operations Squadron are called for assistance with local northern Idaho search and rescue teams. This is the second year of this specific training with state authorities for possible rescue missions involving the IDANG here on March 7-9, 2019. The snowshoes of two ski patrollers and the team of six TACPs trek at a very fast pace, hauling the requested equipment and making their way straight to the location of the initial search team, hiking straight up steep terrain, cutting valuable minutes off the clock.
